Kenning Park to Stretton Hall Farm Shop is an easy walk with the majority of it being on paths and pavements and generally pretty flat so perfect for families or if you don’t fancy a big hike.
One of the best things is that the main feature of this walk is Stretton Hall farm shop where you can buy coffees and cakes to keep you fuelled on the way back.
It’s a must-do for anyone living in or near Clay Cross in Chesterfield.

Route
This route starts at Kenning Park in Clay Cross. Kenning Park is a really lovely park which is nice if you don’t fancy going too far afield.
There’s a lake which has ducks, swans and geese on it as well as a few different paths to explore. If you’re just looking for somewhere to give the dog a run, then you can just wander round the park.

From the top entrance of Kenning Park (Holmgate Road) head down past the fishing lake and turn left into the field. Follow the path through the field to the opening in the wall which leads out onto a residential road.
Head to the end of this road and then across the road where there is an opening opposite. Go through here and you will emerge on to Clay Lane. From here on it’s country roads to Stretton Hall Farm Shop so just watch out for traffic – and horses!
Along this road you’ll see rural houses and farms – look out for the farm building that has lots of cats hanging around. We counted over 10 last time!
Turn right onto Newmarket Lane and then continue on here until you reach the farm shop which will be on the left hand side of the road. You won’t be able to miss it as it’s usually quite busy – especially if you visit at the weekend.

Treat yourself to a hot drink and a cake and maybe even pick up some supplies for the rest of the week before you set off back.
Once you’re ready, set off back along the same road and turn right when you get to Hollins Green. We saw some chickens on the road side here last time we did this walk!
Continue on to Holmgate Road, past the school and eventually you’ll come to a sign for a footpath on the right hand side of the road. Follow this sign and then cross a couple of fields, following the path, until you’re back in the park.
