I love wearing leggings on my walk as they give me maximum flexibility and comfort. However, there are some things that they aren’t great for – they’re not waterproof and they’re not hard wearing, they could easily rip.

I’d heard so much about Acai Outdoorwear and their range of outdoor trousers.

I decided to put a pair of their Max Stretch Skinny Outdoor Trousers on my list for Santa and he delivered!

I’ve been wearing them on my walks all year so far and one of my Instagram followers asked if I’d do a review of them so here it is!

Fit of ACAI skinny trousers

One of the things that I really like about ACAI is that their trousers come in petite, regular and tall lengths. I find it really difficult to find trousers that fit me as I’m short so their petite sizes are perfect for me.

The Max Stretch Skinny Outdoor Trousers are also high waisted (I literally won’t wear any jeans or leggings that aren’t now!) and I actually got a size smaller than I am and they’re a perfect fit. I always size down now when I buy ACAI trousers.

They fit perfectly round my waist and don’t fall down as I’m walking. They’re also nice and tight on the legs as they’re designed to mimic the look of skinny jeans.

They come in a variety of cool colours as well so you can mix and match with the rest of your outdoor gear.

They’re lightweight and they are also breathable, which can sometimes be a bit of a problem when wearing leggings out walking, they don’t really prevent any sweating.

Stretch

These ACAI trousers are made from a stretchy soft shell material which features four way stretch. This means that your movement isn’t restricted at all, which is the reason that I love leggings so much.

I haven’t really done any scrambling in them yet but I’ve sat down on rocks, squeezed through tight spots in walls and clambered over stiles and there isn’t a snag in sight.

Water resistance

One of the problems with my usual leggings is that they don’t really provide any protection from rain, should you get caught in a shower.

I do have waterproof trousers which I can pop on over the top of my leggings but I only ever do this if the rain is torrential because they’re really baggy and super unflattering!

I also found it difficult to get them to fit me properly and ended up having to get a children’s size.

I’ve worn my ACAI trousers during drizzle and in snow – and I even gave them a bigger test by kneeling down in the snow – and my legs stayed nice and dry underneath every time.

They have a water repellent finish which is perfect for showers and they’re even quick drying in heavier rain too – although I can’t speak from experience here as I’ve not been caught out yet!

Company ethos

This is something that has become really important to me over the last couple of years. I want to support companies that are doing things that I believe in when it comes to ethics and sustainability.

ACAI are committed to sustainable practices including using sustainable fabrics. The brand was born out of the desire to empower women in the outdoors and they’re made by women for women.

ACAI also do a thermal range, outdoor jeans and casual stroll pants too, as well as base layers and sweatshirts.
