When I mentioned The Holiday, I wasn’t kidding. Bridge Cottage in the tiny village of Penpol, South Cornwall, looks like it’s straight from the film.

It’s a Grade II listed building with blue window frames, a pretty cottage garden, and a dry stone wall surrounding it. Inside, there’s an Aga range cooker in the kitchen and a wood burner in the living room, perfect for warming up after brisk walks.

Truro and Falmouth are both close by and both host Christmas events such as markets and light switch-ons, and cosy pubs are just a short distance away. Sleeping eight and welcoming dogs, it’s an ideal spot for a family Christmas break.

If cosy beach houses are your vibe, then Pilot’s Cottage in the quaint village of Mousehole is for you. This cottage just oozes contemporary charm, with its gorgeous stone built exterior and window shutters.

Inside you’ll find exposed brick walls, white wooden beams, and a wood burner. Just a short wander away you’ll find Mousehole’s harbour, where you can admire the harbour lights during December.

With room for up to four guests plus your furry friend, Pilot’s Cottage is ideal for a cosy Christmas in front of the fire. Bring your boardgames and books and settle down with a hot chocolate or a mulled wine – bliss!

The town of Wadebridge is just two miles away and Padstow, Rock, and Polzeath are all a short distance away too. Choose from walks along the beach, pottering around town or hop on the picturesque Camel Trail.

Sleeping four people, both bedrooms have large king size beds and their own bathroom, so this property is perfect for two couples.

Here, you’re a ten minute stroll from Prussia Cove, a small smugglers cove that I hadn’t heard of before. From St Breca, the South West Coast Path is almost on your doorstep so you can enjoy some long walks then relax by the fire in the evenings.

Looking for a couples bolthole this Christmas? Look no further than the quirky Cider Barn near Port Isaac.

The interiors of this stone-built cottage are colourful and chic, with a bespoke kitchen, mezzanine bedroom, wood burner, and a peacock blue bathroom with a copper bathtub for two. If you need a bit of romance to warm your heart this winter, this is the place for it.

Port Isaac is five miles away and the picturesque fishing village is probably best known for its appearance in the Doc Martin series. In December, Port Isaac plays host to an artisan Christmas market.

You don’t need to leave your dog at home either, Cider Barn is dog friendly and you can bring up to two pooches.

Cove Cottage, Cape Cornwall

If you like to be beside the seaside, then this cosy fisherman’s cottage might just tick all your boxes. Cove Cottage has an unbeatable location on the Cornish coastline above Priest’s Cove, in two acres of private land.

Sleeping four people, the cottage makes the most of its sea views with a sun room with large windows and a terrace with a glass surround. Inside there’s a cosy sitting room with a wood burner, two bedrooms, and a family bathroom.

Enjoy the coastal paths surrounding the cottage or hop in the car for the short drive to St Just where you can admire the Christmas lights and pop into a pub or two.

Another cottage with a view, Piran Cottage looks over the dramatic west coast of Cornwall to the turquoise sea below. Sleeping four people, this gorgeous holiday home has an eclectic mix of old and new with an electric Aga in the kitchen and traditional wooden furniture in the bedrooms.

The living areas are upstairs in this property to make the most of those spectacular sea views. Relax with a good book in front of the log burner in the lounge while you look out over the ocean.

If you want to get away from it all during the festive period, this is the place to do it. Spend your days exploring the cove or admiring the sea.

Another cottage that looks like it’s straight from the film set for The Holiday, Trewinel sleeps six and welcomes dogs so it’s the perfect place for a family Christmas. Inside it’s jam-packed with traditional features like wooden beams, exposed bricks, and a wood burner.

The west is one of my favourite parts of Cornwall as it’s home to rugged coastlines and spectacular scenery. Penzance and St Ives are just a short drive away from Trewinel, as are a number of sandy beaches.

For a seaside holiday at any time of the year, Spring Cottage in Crantock fits the bill. Perfect for all the family (including dogs!), this contemporary holiday home sleeps up to six people in three bedrooms, each with its own bathroom.

The interiors are bright and light, with a modern twist on traditional features like the white wooden beams in the living room. There’s also a wood burner for cosying up once the temperature drops.

Spring Cottage is in the gorgeous village of Crantock and not far from a sandy beach where you can stretch your legs or explore the coast paths and Cubert Common. Warm up in one of the pubs in the village on the way home.
