We recently spent a gorgeous week glamping in West Cornwall with Aspects Holidays. We stayed in the Shepherd’s Hut at Bluebell Down Farm on a dog friendly UK break.

The hut sleeps two people (plus one dog!) so it’s ideal for romantic getaways in the southwest.

Inside the shepherd’s hut
The shepherd’s hut at Bluebell Down Farm is small but perfectly formed. I absolutely adored how the shepherd’s hut was decorated – it was so cute!
I’d say the décor was a combination of cottage core and rustic chic with a tin shower tray and colanders for lightshades.

I’ve called it glamping but really it’s probably a step up from glamping and is probably more similar to a cosy holiday cottage. It’s the perfect quirky accommodation option for holidays in the south west.
The shepherd’s hut is one of a number of gorgeous properties that Aspects Holidays has in West Cornwall.

On arrival we were greeted with some scones, jam and cream so we could have a Cornish cream tea (jam first and then cream on top – the Cornish way!) and they’d also popped a pint of milk in the fridge for us – much appreciated so we could have a brew after a long drive.

The kitchen has everything you need to do some basic cooking including a gas oven and hob, fridge with freezer compartment and all the utensils you can think of. There are plenty of pots and pans too, no need to worry about running out of plates.
There were also a few different types of glasses which I really appreciated, there’s nothing worse than arriving somewhere without champagne flutes for your prosecco!

The bed is on a platform which gives you some handy storage space underneath where you can pop your luggage or anything else you’re not using. It’s also really comfy, I had a fantastic few nights’ sleep – just what I needed!
Underneath the bed there’s a pull out table with two chairs where you can eat dinner, do a bit of work or enjoy a cuppa. This is really handy as, when you’re not using it, you can just push it back in, giving you lots more space.

Don’t worry about the bathroom either – there’s no going out to shared facilities like on camping sites, you have your own en-suite! I loved the bathroom – it has a reclaimed tub as the shower tray and is super rustic and cute.

Facilities
It’s super cosy inside but if you do get chilly, there is a log burner here where you can build a fire. Everything you need for this including wood and newspaper is provided.
There are also some electric heaters which you can pop on if you don’t want to build a fire.

The wi-fi in the shepherd’s hut was great – we were able to stream Netflix as well as get on with some work. A definite plus if you’re looking for somewhere in Cornwall where you can work remotely.
Location
The Shepherd’s Hut at Bluebell Down Farm has a stunning location which feels as if it’s in the middle of nowhere but is also within easy reach of the beaches, towns and villages that make this area so appealing.

Located on a farm, it is next to a holiday cottage, so you don’t feel completely isolated, but it is in a very quiet location up some of the narrow country lanes which Cornwall is known for. You also get beautiful sea views straight from the door.
You can sit at the outside table and enjoy the views with dinner and a drink. We got some fish and chips to bring back here and sat with them enjoying the views and taking it all in.
There’s just something about being by the sea, isn’t there?

Just a 30-minute walk away is Portheras Cove, a stunning sandy beach where you are almost guaranteed to see seals. It’s a bit of a rocky climb down to the beach but it is definitely worth it once you get there.
I think this is my new favourite beach in Cornwall, if not the UK!

Within driving distance are Sennen Cove, Land’s End, the Minack Theatre, St Ives and plenty more of the Cornish coast so this is a great place to base yourself for exploring West Cornwall.

Dog-friendly facilities
The shepherd’s hut was just perfect for a UK holiday with your dog and Alfie enjoyed every second of his. Inside the hut there was a dog bed and bowl provided.
This was fantastic for us as it saved us some room in the car, which is always packed full for UK breaks.
If your dog is well-behaved (ours is not!), then you could let them have a little run around just outside the shepherd’s hut as there is a garden to make use of. The hut is on a farm, so you’ll have to keep a close eye on your dog but if their recall is good then you should be fine.
Aspects Holidays also provides dogs with a collar tag which they can wear while they’re on their holidays. This has their contact details on, in case your dog goes wandering while you’re on the beach.
You just have to pop into their office in St Ives to get one of these if you want one.
We had an amazing time on holiday with Aspects Holidays. We had absolutely everything we needed to enjoy a lovely break in west Cornwall.
