Reykjavik isn’t known for being a cheap city, but there are budget accommodation options to be found. If you’re looking for somewhere cheap to stay in Reykjavik then the Baldursbra Guesthouse Laufasvegur could be for you.

While the rooms are basic and the facilities are shared, a stay here means you’ll have more money left over in your budget for sightseeing. At the end of the day, you didn’t come to Iceland to stay in your room so you’ll only spend a couple of hours here anyway.

Without a doubt, the best thing about Baldursbra Guesthouse Laufasvegur is its fantastic location. It is within a ten minute walk of all of the best sights in Reykjavik.

It’s also on a quieter, residential road, so you don’t get much noise from the city at night. I stayed on a weekend and it was pretty quiet.

I went to Iceland as a female solo traveller and felt very safe walking back to the guesthouse at night.

If you decide to hire a car during your trip to Iceland, there is free on-street parking just outside the guesthouse.

Bedrooms

The bedrooms are basic and sparsely furnished. I stayed in a three-person private room which had a double bed (two singles pushed together), a single bed, and a wardrobe to hang clothes.

The room was very spacious, with plenty of room for luggage. There’s free wi-fi throughout the guesthouse so you can post your adventures on your social media channels while you’re there.

The room was nice and warm and had a radiator in it that you could control the heating – essential when you’re visiting Iceland in winter. It warmed up quickly when the heating had been off too.

My room had a sink in it which I really appreciated as it meant I didn’t have to leave the room to brush my teeth. Towels are also provided so you can save room in your luggage as you don’t need to bring your own.

Facilities

Each floor has a shared bathroom for guests. My floor had two bathrooms – one with a shower and one with just a toilet and sink.

Both of these bathrooms were spotlessly clean. There was also a hairdryer in the bathroom for guests to use.

There were some toiletries in the shower room and I’m not sure whether these were provided, or if they belonged to other people, or whether they had been left, but it was useful in case you had forgotten anything.

Downstairs there was a self-catering kitchen and dining room. This is really useful if you’re visiting Iceland on a budget as you can save more money by preparing your own meals.

I didn’t use these but I saw other people doing so.

There is also a hot tub on the roof terrace which I didn’t have time to make use of but would be a great place to view the northern lights from during winter.
