London is one of my favourite places to visit for a city break. There’s so much to do here that you’ll never get bored, no matter how many times you go.
I recently took my boyf for a couple of nights and we stayed at the New Road Hotel in Whitechapel, East London.

The New Road Hotel is a stylish boutique hotel housed in a former textiles factory. It’s all industrial chic inside with exposed brick work and pipes and a mixture of brown leather seats and plush jewel tones.
Inspired by the New York metropolis, it’s quirky and cool with converted warehouse vibes and it just feels like a great place to hang out as well as stay.
The room
We stayed in one of the Warehouse X rooms and we absolutely loved it. The first thing you notice as you walk in is the huge bed which is built in.
This extra-large bed measures 2m x 2m and has a headboard on three sides. This means that you can choose which way you want to sleep!
There’s also a 49” flatscreen TV so it’s the perfect space for chilling out after your day of running around London.
The en-suite is a wet room which is built into the room itself. An opaque glass surrounding separates it from the bedroom.
The en-suite has a rainfall shower with plenty of hot water.
The room is compact but has everything you need including a dressing table and rails to hang your clothes. Up here there was original exposed brickwork too, as well as large windows.
This meant that our room was filled with natural daylight. I also loved the automatic blinds which went up and down with a switch.
A couple of things that the rooms don’t have include a minibar and kettle. This was no problem though as there is free unlimited tea, coffee and hot chocolate from a machine on each floor.
This solves the problem of running out of teabags and coffee sachets and we made great use of this! There are also snacks like crisps and chocolate bars available from the vending machine.
If you’re looking to push the boat out then the New Road Hotel offers a loft room which has a rooftop hot tub!
Food and drink
Let’s start at the beginning of the day with the breakfast. I think breakfast might be one of my favourite things about staying in a hotel and this one is fabulous.
Breakfast is included in the price of your room if you choose this option. I think this is great when you’re on a city break as it really sets you up for a day of sightseeing.
There is a choice of breakfasts to order which include avocado or smoked salmon and poached eggs on toast, full English and pancakes. In addition to that there’s fruit and pastries which you can help yourself to as well as tea, coffee and juices.
I loved this because it means you can try something different each day. I went for the avocado and poached eggs on toast on the first day. The eggs were cooked perfectly with a delicious runny yolk.
On the second day I had sweet cravings so went for a stack of pancakes with berries and maple syrup. Lee chose the full English breakfast which came with turkey sausages and bacon which he thought were delicious.
Mr White’s English Chophouse
Inside the hotel, is Mr White’s English Chophouse, one of Marco Pierre White’s restaurants. I loved this as we could get some great food without needing to leave the hotel!
We met some friends here for dinner.
The Chophouse menu is full of English classics, quality meat and hearty portions, all with the dash of French flair that Marco is known for.
My boyf and I shared a starter of calamari which had a lovely light coating. It was a huge portion too!
We all had steaks which were cooked to perfection. I had the fillet which was super tender with not a bit of fat or gristle.
We thought the food here was fantastic and very reasonably priced. While we were there they also had an offer on of 50% off main courses.
We also enjoyed a few drinks at the bar where there was a relaxed, friendly atmosphere which reminded me a bit of a hostel in how social it was. On Tuesdays they have live music in the bar from different London buskers so we stayed for this and really enjoyed it.
Location
The hotel is located on New Road (hence the name!) which is a three-minute walk from Whitechapel tube station. This means that you’ve got easy access to all the sites that London has to offer.
It’s incredibly easy to get around the city via the tube.
Just 10 minutes away via tube is Tower Hill and the Tower of London. Start here and walk along the South Bank of the Thames on a fine day.
Just a short distance from the hotel is Shoreditch, one of my favourite areas of London. It’s a vibrant area which has a wide variety of bars and restaurants.
Brick Lane and Spitalfields are also nearby. Be sure to pop into the markets here for some one-off finds.
Facilities
There is free wi-fi throughout the property including in the rooms. In fact, the bar looks like a great location to work remotely and there were several people doing that while we were there.
The New Road Hotel even offers a co-working package from just £4.95 which includes access to wi-fi and charging points. You also get a coffee and croissant on arrival.
If you prefer playing to working then there’s plenty of that too! Upstairs there’s a games room with a pool table and arcade games. We were staying on this floor so we made use of both of these.
