Reusable period pants, cups, and pads are more popular than ever as we all strive to do what we can to live a more sustainable lifestyle. Period pants are my favourite sustainable product as they’re just so easy to wear.

I recently tried out the new WUKA Cotton Stretch pants so read on for my review.

About WUKA

WUKA stands for Wake Up Kick Ass and hopes to empower anyone that bleeds. Founded by Ruby Raut in 2017, they offer a range of award-winning underwear and sportswear for different sizes and flows.

Their mission is to provide access to sustainable, quality period products, eliminate period poverty, and break the stigma around periods. They campaigned for the removal of the period pants tax in January 2024 which has now made buying period underwear 20% cheaper.

I first tried WUKA a few years ago when I first became interested in living more sustainably. I have worn their period pants for every period since as I was so impressed with them.

WUKA Cotton Stretch pants

WUKA Cotton Stretch Seamless Period Pants are full-brief, seamless period pants designed to fit every body size. I tried the medium flow pants which offer the equivalent protection of four tampon’s worth or three pads.

They come in two different sizes, with each size fitting four sizes, thanks to their stretch. I love this as there’s no more agonising over what size to buy and then the hassle of returning something when it doesn’t fit.

You can wear them for up to 12 hours on lighter days and between four and eight hours on heavier days. They are made of a super soft outer layer which absorbs quickly and feels dry, a super absorbent inner layer which locks in blood and a leak-proof layer which is secure and free from odour.

There’s a version of the pants for heavy flow too, if this suits you better.

They’re really comfortable and aren’t bulky at all, so you don’t need to worry about wearing tight trousers or jeans with them. I get quite bloating during my period and they just stretch with you so they don’t cause discomfort.

Lots of pads contain plastic and harsh chemicals which can irritate your skin. I have really sensitive skin, especially in winter, and it can get really uncomfortable.

WUKA Cotton Stretch are free from chemicals so they’re way more comfortable, especially when wearing over a long period of time. I actually forget I’m wearing them as they’re so comfortable.

The packaging

The Cotton Stretch pants come in resealable packaging which is perfect for travelling. You can pop your pants back in here and seal them up as you move between locations.

Taking WUKA period pants with you when you travel also means that you don’t have to spend time out of sightseeing to track down some tampons or pads.

They’re also super easy to wash, which is helpful if you’re doing washing on the road. You just pop them in the washing machine at 30 degrees or, if you’d prefer, hand wash them.

If you want to have a more sustainable period then I can’t recommend the WUKA Cotton Stretch pants enough. They’re comfortable, convenient for travelling, and just one pair replaces 200 single-use pads and tampons.
