The Rhine Valley, Germany

Among the most iconic natural features of Germany is the river Rhine, and the valley that surrounds it. This river has helped to shape the nation’s culture and history. Entire operas have centred around it.

Visit the valley in person, and you’ll find vineyards, medieval castles, and a great deal more besides. Rhine River cruises are a fantastic way to tour the valley.

You might stop off at picturesque little towns like Rüdesheim and Bacharach, as well as hilltop castles like Rheinstein, Klopp and Rosel, all of which are nestled within a few miles of each another.

Amsterdam

Amsterdam, Netherlands

What makes the Dutch capital so compelling during spring is the fact that the iconic tulips are in blossom. The surrounding countryside is carpeted in blossoms, and the markets within the city will be fragrant with them.

If you want to see the flowers up close, then a visit to the nearby town of Lisse, and the Keukenhof Gardens, might be in order. Within the city itself, you might also pay a visit to Blossom Park, where the cherry trees will be in bloom between March and April.

Lisbon, Portugal

The Portuguese capital offers a very different kind of experience, with plenty of viewpoints, historic sections, and amazing food to choose from. At this time of year, the city’s jacaranda trees come into bloom, and many streets become tinged with the purple hue of their petals, making for some Insta-worthy photographs.

The city’s oldest neighbourhood, Alfama, is where you’ll find many of the historic buildings. It’s sandwiched between the Tagus and Sao Jorge Castle.

Lake Bled, Slovenia

Slovenia is perhaps an overlooked part of the continent but when it comes to natural beauty, it’s difficult to beat. This is particularly evident if you pay a visit to Lake Bled during springtime.

Sheltered by the mountain forests of the Julian Alps, it’s a paradise for hikers, rowers, and cyclists. Pay a visit to the island in the centre of the lake, with its inspiring church, before the crowds descend for summer.

Seville, Spain

This city is best known as a hub for some of Spain’s best-known traditions, like flamenco dancing. During a week-long springtime festival known as Feria de Abril, those traditions come to the fore.

You’ll see traditional costumes, dancing, and plenty of food, too – all of which are sure to make a visit here unforgettable. Stroll through the Plaza de España, and you’ll surely catch the scent of orange blossom, for which Seville is known.
