During my stay in Palma de Mallorca, I chose a budget-friendly city centre option – Apuntadores Hostal. I was travelling alone and so I wanted somewhere that was in easy reach of everything and where I felt safe and comfortable.
I think Apuntadores Hostal is a great option for solo female travellers, as well as anyone looking to explore this beautiful city. Although technically a hostel, it did feel more like a hotel thanks to the private rooms and services.

The room
The room was basic but spacious and very clean. In fact, it was cleaned every day and the bed was made while I was out.
I booked a single occupancy room so it was perfect for one person.
The room had a double bed, a large desk, a wardrobe with a fridge and a safe inside and an en-suite bathroom. The fridge is a great idea if you’re looking to save more pennies as you can buy some breakfast things and snacks from the supermarket and pop them in there.
In the bathroom, the shower was excellent. It had a waterfall head and there was plenty of hot water.
I had two showers most days to make the most of it. In the shower there is a combined shower gel and shampoo.
There’s no conditioner so bring your own if you need it. There also isn’t a hairdryer in the room but they have some downstairs so you just need to ask for one if you decide to wash your hair.
The view from my room was a little disappointing. From my window I could only see the windows opposite me and one next to me.
However, some of the rooms actually had little balconies which looked out on to the street so it really depends on which room type you choose as to which view you get.
Facilities
There is free wi-fi throughout the property and I found that it worked really well. I was working remotely while in Palma and I managed to do everything that I needed to from my room, without having to nip to a café.
There is a large rooftop terrace at the hostel where you can enjoy panoramic views over the city and soak up the sunshine during the summer months. Although the weather wasn’t great when I stayed, I did pop up here on sunny mornings and I think it would be a fabulous place to watch the sunrise.
There is a locked luggage store downstairs from the main reception where you can leave your bags on your day of departure. This means that you can make the most of your time in the city without hauling your bags around with you.
I left my bags here all day on my last day and they were very safe. There’s also a toilet downstairs next to the luggage room so you can freshen up or get changed here before you go to the airport to catch your flight.
The hostel does offer a breakfast each morning which isn’t included in the price. I didn’t try this as there are plenty of places to eat in the city and I had some early starts too.
The café here also offers snacks and there’s a bar for drinks.
Staff
One of my favourite things about the hostel was how friendly the staff were. They made a point of speaking to me every time I came downstairs and were really helpful with everything I needed.
They also gave me a large chilled glass bottle of water on arrival and filled this up whenever I needed it which saved me buying plastic bottles each day.
Location
Apuntadores Hostal is just 10 minutes by taxi from Palma airport. Taxis cost around 20 euros each way and there is a taxi rank just across the road from the hostel.
Located in the old town, the hostel sits up one of Palma’s gorgeous tiny side streets and it is within easy reach of shops, bars and restaurants.
As a city, Palma is really walkable and I would recommend staying in the old town if you’re looking to visit some of the wonderful tapas bars that the city has to offer. Apuntadores Hostal is located near to Plaza de la Reina Square and Paseo del Born Avenue.

My flight doesn’t get in until late, will I still be able to check in?
Yes, the reception at Apuntadores Hostal is 24 hours. I arrived just after midnight as my flight was delayed and my check in process was quick and smooth.
Is there a kettle in the room for tea and coffee?
No, there isn’t a kettle in the room. However, there are tea and coffee making facilities downstairs at the bar.
Are the surroundings quiet at night time?
Yes, I found the surroundings very quiet at night time during my stay here. I think it may be noisier during the summer months when the city is busier but generally from 11pm until 7am, it is very quiet outside.
Can I cancel my booking if I need to?
I booked my stay through Booking.com where it was free cancellation if you changed your mind within a certain amount of time.
