Making the decision to permanently move to somewhere that allows you to satisfy that need can be daunting, especially if you aren’t sure where to live. Here are some of the best places in the UK that will allow you to embrace your true outdoorsy self.

The Lake District

The Lake District is one of the most popular areas for hiking, boating and other outdoor pursuits. Because of this, houses are sought after too.

It is worth bearing in mind that there will be a lot of competition in the local housing market, so be prepared to wait a little while.

It is worth noting that there are some lovely villages and towns that are outside the Lake District boundaries but still have easy access to the best mountains and lakes where it’s totally worth wearing an outdoor vest so you can also bring your essentials. Widen your search to places such as Penrith, Whitehaven and Kendal when looking for your dream home.

East Yorkshire

East Yorkshire is the perfect blend of coastal landscapes and countryside which offers plenty of opportunities for all adventurers. If you have a mixture of interests within your family, look for somewhere that allows you to have access to both.

You may find your budget goes further in the north, so make sure you consider all options. For example, new builds in Hornsea could be the perfect family home whilst living by the coast.

The Scottish Highlands

The Highlands of Scotland cover a vast area, so careful planning is required before you up and move. If you dream of a completely remote lifestyle, you should set your sights in the north near Sutherland and Caithness.

For those who would like to be able to pop to the shops without a day’s planning, why not look at coastal towns such as Lochaber? Here you would be near Fort William with Glasgow only an hour’s drive away.

North Wales

One of the most iconic areas in Wales is the Snowdonia National Park. With Snowdon a visible presence over much of the surrounding area, it is easy to see why many people want to relocate to Wales.

The Peak District

Covering 555 square miles, the Peak District is a stunning national park in Derbyshire. Packed full of historical significance and picturesque villages you will feel right at home once you settle in.

Hathersage is a popular choice for outdoor enthusiasts as it is close to Stanage Edge. Stanage Edge is a draw for rock climbers with incredible panoramic views of the Hope Valley and the Dark Peak moorlands.
