Sunday dinner at The Yard, Derby

I’ve spent quite a bit of time at The Yard, Derby, but usually on a Saturday afternoon just before a Derby County match where I’m drinking wine or cider out of a plastic glass and squashed up against quite a few other Rams fans. When I got invited to try Sunday lunch there, I jumped at the chance.
The Yard is situated at Pride Park, so it’s perfect for a pre-match drink, but it’s also a great venue to enjoy a meal. It’s all industrial chic inside with an open kitchen, wooden benches and exposed hanging lightbulbs, and there is a relaxed and friendly atmosphere, it’s a cool place to go for brunch or an afternoon glass of prosecco.
I took my mum with me for a mum and daughter lunch and we were delighted when we were seated in one of the birdcage booths. The restaurant was decorated ready for Christmas and it looked beautiful inside.
For starters I picked a charcuterie board which was packed with continental meats, pickles, olives and capers and was really yummy. My mum went for the king prawns which came with pickled cucumber, lime and guacamole – the prawns were large, juicy and full of flavour.
We decided to try the Sunday lunch for our main courses and I went for turkey (well, it was December after all!) and my mum went for the roast beef. The beef was served pink and it was tender and melted in your mouth, the portions were huge and everything was delicious. We were also brought extra gravy without even having to ask which I was a big fan of – northern girls love gravy!
We were almost full when it came to time for dessert so we went for a raspberry mousse to share. This was super light and sweet and was a great ending to a delicious meal. I couldn’t fault the food at all, it was great.
I’m going to give a special shout out to Rose who served us on the day as she was really lovely and friendly. Nothing was too much trouble and she checked on us several times to make sure the food was ok and to ask if we needed anything else.
