I’ve put together some useful tips and essential items you need to put in your suitcase so you can arrive at your ski resort ready and raring to go!

Pack proper ski clothing

Ski holidays aren’t any fun if you’ve not packed accordingly. No one wants the risk of getting frostbite! Skiing is a high-alpine activity that requires you to dress properly.

The cold weather means layering up to stay nice and warm. It’s also a good idea to check the snow forecast in the lead-up to your trip.

If you haven’t got any ski-appropriate attire, borrow some from a friend, or perhaps check out secondhand stores where you could score a good deal.

Buy a ski helmet

Even the most experienced skiers come off their skis from time to time. Considering how fast you’re going on the slopes, a hit to the head without a helmet could be incredibly dangerous.

You cannot justify skiing without wearing a helmet! You can rent a helmet from a ski rental store if you don’t want to shell out a fortune for one.

Just make sure it fits your head perfectly.

Don’t forget goggles and accessories

You’ll need a pair of goggles when you’re skiing! Your eyes will thank you for it, especially when the sun is beating down or snow is getting in your face.

A normal pair of sunglasses won’t cut it when it’s blizzarding sideways. Make sure to stock up on accessories, including a scarf, mittens, and balaclava.

You should purchase ski socks as well to protect your feet.

If you think that all of this sounds expensive, then don’t worry. I’ve got some tips for a budget ski holiday here.

Pick a suitable resort

Are you new to the skiing world, or have you been on many ski holidays? You may prefer a beginner-friendly resort if you’re a first-timer.

Although most ski resorts have an area with nursery slopes, once you have got the hang of stopping, you will want to be upping your game onto longer green or blue slopes. Have a look at several ski resorts to help make your mind up.

Invest in ski lessons

Before you arrive at your ski resort, having some ski lessons is wise. An experienced ski instructor can take you through the sport in a fun way while making sure you learn the correct techniques.

Either have ski lessons before you fly or book some once you get to your resort. The choice is up to you.

Get exercising

Between using muscles you never thought you had and the altitude, skiing will certainly take its toll on your body. For that reason, it’s important to implement regular exercise into your routine in the lead-up to your adventure.

Exercise can help overcome aches and pains that everyone endures on their first ski holiday while targeting the muscle groups most commonly linked with the sport.

Before my first ski holiday, I was running three times a week, and I tried to do 100 squats each night to strengthen my glutes and thighs.

I know you’re itching to get out the front door and onto the slopes. But before you put your skis on and get too excited, it’s important to get organised and prepared well in advance.

That way, you will get the most out of your ski holiday.
