Located near Burton-on-Trent in Staffordshire, Hoar Cross Hall is an award-winning spa hotel offering spa days, overnight breaks, and incredible fine dining. With acres of grounds, stylish bedrooms, and tailored treatments, Hoar Cross Hall is perfect for a romantic break with your other half, a girls spa trip, or a hen do.

I’ve been to Hoar Cross Hall a few times for spa days and afternoon tea and I recently went for an overnight stay for my own surprise hen party.

Spa facilities at Hoar Cross Hall

A swimming pool at Hoar Cross Hall spa.

One thing I love about Hoar Cross Hall is that there are so many different areas of the spa to explore. There’s plenty here to keep you occupied for the day, and even longer.

The hydrotherapy pool and the saltwater pool are the main events with plenty of space for swimming or floating around. You can enjoy the benefits of cold and heat in the Nordic Heat and Ice experience where you can hop in the sauna and then take a cold shower.

There’s an Aqua Massage area with a cold plunge pool (which is nowhere near as cold as the outdoor barrels!), and a foot bath with massaging pebbles in it. The Detox Centre is full of experience showers at different temperatures targeting different areas of the body.

Gym access and fitness classes are included in the price of the spa but I didn’t try these on this occasion so can’t really comment. I have done yoga here on a previous visit and really enjoyed it.

There are also loads of rooms where you can just chill out and have some quiet time or even take a nap.

The Spa Terrace

This year Hoar Cross Hall opened their new spa terrace and it is absolutely dreamy. The decor reminds me of a beach club in Ibiza with its striped umbrellas and Spanish tiles, and its the perfect spot to enjoy some relaxation and a couple of drinks.

There are three hot tub-style pools with massage jets, cold water plunge barrels with temperatures as low as 3 degrees, and a glass-fronted sauna that overlooks the pools.

There are also cabanas and loungers where you can enjoy reading a book or take a nap. The cabanas even have a button you can push to order drinks and they really give you the feeling like you’re on holiday somewhere tropical.

If its chilly there are blankets available as well as fire pits where you can warm up. The bar serves yummy cocktails, Veuve Cliquot champagne, and small plates in the afternoon.

We absolutely loved the spa terrace and I think it’s a very welcome addition which puts Hoar Cross Hall head and shoulders above other day spas I’ve been to.

Dining

Ok, let’s talk about the food! We ate in The Ballroom for dinner and I was very impressed with the ambience of the room and the menus.

The food is high quality fine-dining with dishes created using seasonal ingredients and an emphasis on fantastic flavours. You get a three course dinner with every overnight spa stay and a three course lunch the next day, too.

The portions are small but filling, with enough food to satisfy you without feeling too full. I had a goat’s cheese starter followed by monkfish and then a sorbet to finish.

We enjoyed lunch in Hugo’s, the spa restaurant which offers meals made using the freshest of ingredients. Here I had salmon to start followed by braised beef and Eton mess for dessert.

Again, I absolutely could not fault the food, it was absolutely delicious.

With an overnight spa stay, you can also indulge in breakfast. There are plenty of options including cooked full English breakfast, fresh fruit, pastries, and yogurt and granola.

One of my favourite things was the fresh juices made with fruits and vegetables. There’s also a bloody Mary station if you want to start the day off on the right foot.

Oh and the best thing about eating at the spa? You can go to breakfast and lunch in your robe!

Activities

As well as the spa facilities and the wellness suite, Hoar Cross Hall also offers some outdoor activities. You can choose to play a game of tennis, practice your swing on the driving range, hop on a bike and cycle round the grounds, or try your hand at archery.

We decided to try archery and we had so much fun. The activity took around an hour and we had some practice arrows before playing some games.

I managed to win two of the games and I even hit the apple on top of the target!

Overnight stays at Hoar Cross Hall

We got a package which included an activity, an overnight stay, a three course dinner, full spa access on the second day, breakfast, and lunch on the second day. This was incredible value and I think it was worth every penny.

I loved the fact that our room slept four people so it meant that my friends and I could all sleep and get ready in the same room. It was kind of like two rooms separated by a corridor, each with its own en-suite bathroom.

The beds are two single beds which can be made into doubles so this room is perfect for groups of friends, or two couples travelling together. Our room also had an amazing view over the new Spa Terrace.

Whether it’s a romantic escape with your other half or a break away with the girls, Hoar Cross Hall makes for a perfect getaway. You’ll leave feeling totally relaxed and rejuvenated after eating incredible food and enjoying the amazing spa facilities on offer.
