The Perfect Girls’ Weekend

Every so often, it’s really nice to spend a weekend with your girlfriends. Just chilling out, having fun and forgetting all about whatever you’ve had going on during the week. I had the perfect girls’ weekend just last week when I headed down to visit one of my very close friends with two other besties. My friend lives in St Albans, the perfect base for popping into London for the day.

Here’s what we got up to on our perfect girls’ weekend…

Having a yummy brunch

I’m fast becoming a huge fan of brunching. We had ours at Goode and Wright on Portobello Road in Notting Hill (where I’ve decided I want to live when/if I move to London) which we found on The Londoner blog.

We treated ourselves to Bucks Fizz (well it was the weekend!) and a delicious combination of smoked salmon and poached eggs. There was a confusing moment where we didn’t realise the poached egg was actually inside the bread (how do they do that?!) but I’d definitely recommend the chunky chips with caper mayonnaise and the cheesy frites.

The service left a lot to be desired – we had to convince the waiter that we had booked a table with our email confirmation as he looked on suspiciously, and we practically had to beg them for the bill – but the food was so delicious that all is forgiven.

Getting lost on the tube

I’m down in London at least once a month now and I’m always on the tube but that didn’t stop us from getting confused from time to time and having to consult our tube map!

Having an emotional moment

On our to do list, visiting the Tower of London to see the poppies was number one. It was crazy busy with people trying to get  a glimpse of the flowers and it was really overwhelming to see all the poppies and realising what each one represents. We went around 4.30pm when it was dark and everything was lit up, it was awe-inspiring.

We also managed to catch the reading out of the names of the soldiers who were killed during WW1. This was a really emotional moment, and a couple of us definitely had a tear.

Taking lots of selfies

One of my friend’s has a timer on her phone which allows you to take awesome group selfies whilst propping the phone up against something. We have since discovered that this is not a feature that’s unique to HTC and, actually, iPhones can do this too. Cue lots more selfies now we have no excuse not to.

And it wouldn’t be the same without a few drinks

We went to Verve in Covent Garden during happy hour. The cocktails were super reasonable (especially as they were half price) and we sat downstairs in a booth which was nice and private – perfect for a girly gossip! We had a couple of rounds of mojitos (my fave) and brambles.

We also indulged in prosecco and nibbles in the square.

I’m hoping we can do another perfect girls’ weekend before too long! What are your best tips for enjoying yourself with your friends? Let me know below!
