Taste of Nottingham Taster Trail Event*

Last week I went to one of the best events I have ever been to – the Taste of Nottingham Taster Trail event in the city itself. Accompanied by Ellie Kathleen from my East Midlands blogger group, we ate and drank our way through Nottingham’s finest bars and restaurants, accompanied by local journalists and bloggers. Organised by Gemini PR, the event was a forerunner to the Taste of Nottingham festival which has been running all this week – perfect for an East Midlands foodie!

The Taste of Nottingham Taster Trail kicked off in The Bear and Lace which is a new high end champagne bar in the city centre. I had never been to the venue before but Ellie assures me it was a real dive/karaoke bar in its previous life but there was absolutely no hint of that here. The decor was luxe vintage and we all had one of their signature Angel De La Muerta cocktails which contains champagne and more and tastes absolutely delicious. I’m a huge fan of champagne and so this bar is perfect for me. I had a sneak peek at their champagne list and was really impressed by their selection and the reasonable pricing. I’ve seen they do a delicious brunch as well which might be well worth checking out. Which reminds me, if you need to purchase a present for the champagne fan in your life, you might want to consider taking a look at a wide array of champagne gifts from Bottled and Boxed. There are so many fantastic champagne gift ideas out there, it can be hard to know where to turn sometimes!

After this we popped along to Oaks for starters, serving delicious meats cooked on their custom built log grill and we indulged in some of their signature pink bubbles. Their speciality is their ember-cooked sausages which we had the pleasure of trying platters full of. Flavours included: lamb, aubergine, tahini, rosemary and confit garlic; chicken, asparagus, ricotta, sage and lemon zest; beef, gruyere cheese, red onion and red wine; pork, pancetta and smoked paprika; and wild boar, purple broccoli and smoked mozzarella. My favourites were the lamb ones which says a lot as I’m not a massive fan of lamb usually but there were melt-in-your-mouth cooked to perfection. I’m also a big fan of nibbly food and so as these were on platters, they went down an absolute treat.

Yamas Nottingham

For our main course we headed over to Yamas which, incidentally, is Ellie’s favourite restaurant in Nottingham. Like all the best restaurants, it’s nothing to look at from the outside, or even the inside, but it serves amazing Greek meze and Spanish tapas – a real Mediterranean treat. I helped myself to plenty of fresh Greek salad, pitta bread, lamb and king prawns in a garlic oil, all of which tasted absolutely amazing.

Unfortunately I had to miss pudding at Rub Smokehouse & Bar as I had to catch the last train home but I heard their waffles are incredible so it’s definitely on my list to try next time I’m in Nottingham.

I must say – this was one of the best Mondays I’ve had for a long time! And I definitely got a “Taste of Nottingham”…see what I did there?!
