Do you love travelling but lack of funds often means that you have to come home? Don’t worry, there are plenty of ways to make money while you’re on the road which means that you don’t have to stop doing what you love. Here are some ways in which you can make extra money while you’re travelling.
Start a blog
So this is an obvious one! It’s more of a slow burner than a get rich quick scheme and it takes a lot of work, but you could end up making quite a bit of money on your blog and Instagram channel. If you’re already travelling it’ll be easy for you to create amazing travel guides and beautiful photos so then you’ll need to build up a following. Once you’ve done this, enable ads on your site, accept sponsored content and join some affiliate programmes.
This might start out as a bit of pocket money but could soon turn into a big revenue stream. Here are some blogging essentials to get you started.
And if writing is your thing, you don’t even need to start your own blog. why not become a freelance writer instead? Start by finding work on sites like People Per Hour and Freelancer.com and build up a portfolio. You could then begin pitching to magazines and newspapers, or write content for websites.
Airbnb your home
If you have your own house that you use as a base when you’re back from travelling then this one is for you. While you’re away you won’t be using your own home, so why not rent it out on Airbnb?
You could make quite a lot of money through this, especially if you live in a city or a sought-after tourist area in the countryside. Here’s a guide to renting your property out to get you started.
Sell your photos and videos
If you are a dab hand at taking photos, you may be able to sell them to a stock photography site. You’ll probably be documenting your travels anyway, so why not make a little bit of money while you do it? The pay isn’t great but it might be enough to pay for your journey to the next destination. Try sites like Adobe Stock and Shutterstock to get started.
An oldie but a goodie! Find casual work in a bar or cafe wherever you are at the moment. The work is usually casual and flexible leaving you plenty of time for exploring, you’ll probably make lots of friends and you might even end up making a bit extra in tips. It might not be a long term solution but it’s usually a laugh.
Teaching a language
Another popular one, teaching a language can be done both in person and online. Some countries don’t even need a qualification but if you do want to go down a more formal route, it’s a good idea to take a TEFL course.
To teach English online, all you need is a reliable internet connection. Teaching English online is often very flexible so you just work the hours that you need to, leaving you plenty of time for adventures. You can also do this from anywhere so you can move from country to country with no problems!
