Winter city break fashion wishlist*
Winter is probably my favourite time to take a city break – you avoid the crowds, you don’t get too hot walking around and it’s something to look forward to once summer has ended. In January I visited Rome and the year before I spent New Year’s Eve in New York. I’ve got no overnight trips planned just yet but we’re planning a day at the Christmas markets in Manchester which is almost a city break!
Winter city breaks call for a completely different wardrobe to your average sunshine holiday and so here are my top picks for what to wear this winter when you’re exploring…
I know what you’re thinking – but I’m not talking about the archetypal Ugg boots. My faves are the suede more structured Ugg boots. They’re furry inside so they’re still super warm like the traditional Uggs but they’re fashionable and smart. I may have just bought two pairs…Top tip: I always buy my winter boots from Shoeaholics as they offer great deals on branded shoes.
A coat for every occasion
I tend to take a few coats with me for a winter city break which is why I can never travel with just hand luggage! You need a waterproof one for exploring in the rain, a smarter one (which can’t be worn in the rain!) and one for night time for dinners and cocktails. For night times I love this faux fur cape from Lyst – it’s so sophisticated and goes well with jeans or a dress.
A bag big enough for your pocket map
My handbag essentials for a city break include a pocket map, lipstick, purse, phone and hotel room key and so you need a stylish bag to carry all these around in. Luckily I’ve just published my top 4 bags for winter post so head on over there for some inspiration.
A snuggly jumper
I’m obsessed with this stripy jumper from Missguided and I’ve seen it on quite a few bloggers as well. Unfortunately they’re out of stock in my size but I’m going to keep checking for when they get it back in.
Depending on where you’re heading off to this winter, it might get pretty chilly and so wrap up warm in some lovely winter woolies. I bought this hat from Pomskii last winter and I’m obsessed with it still. The bobbles are also interchangeable so if you buy a few hats, you can mix and match. They also do scarves with pom poms on the ends which I may treat myself to this winter. My hands are always freezing as well so I love a nice pair of gloves with sheepskin mittens being my faves.
