Wedding Countdown Prep

Ok, so there is literally five more months before I walk down the isle and things are getting serious. The invitations have arrived and it’s time to start sorting all the little details which I’ve not even thought about before. But, not only am I getting things ready for the ceremony, I’m also getting myself ready to look amazing on the big day. So what have I been doing?

Diet and Exercise
I’ve started doing my cheat diet which I always crack out for the big occasions. Find more information about what I’ve given up here. Obviously, I can make up excuses when I want a treat day, like today when I’m feeling really hungover so I’m going to treat myself to a fat Dominoes takeaway! I was also drinking a cup of green tea every morning at work. This didn’t work out that well for me as I was so adverse to the taste but green tea is really supposed to cleanse your systems, making you healthier on the inside and out.

For the past few months I’ve been taking Hair, Skin and Nails vitamins from Holland and Barrett. Basically they do what they say on the tin – improve the condition of your hair, skin and nails. I’ve been taking three capsules a day and have seen a definite improvement in all three areas.

I’ve started swimming with my fiance and we’ve been trying to go twice a week when we can fit it into our schedules. Swimming is really good exercise as it works a lot of different muscles in the body, meaning that you burn calories faster. I’m also intending to start doing sit-ups in the morning and before bed time.

Probably the very most important thing for me is to make sure that my skin is in tip top condition for my wedding. I’ve always suffered with bad skin (oilyness, break outs) ever since I was a teenager and so it would be great if, just for the one day, my skin could look amazing. It’s recommended that you get professional facials once a month and have your last one six weeks prior to the big day to make sure that any redness and break outs have had time to calm down.

It’s important to cleanse, tone and moisturise every morning and evening and I would suggest to choose a skincare system which suits your skin type and that you can really get on with. Here’s my pick of the best!

L-R Dermalogica SkinPerfect Primer, Dermalogica Microfoliant, DHC Deep Cleansing Oil, DHC Mascara Perfect Pro, DHC Velvet Skin Coat

Dermalogica Microfoliant*
Dermalogica is up there for me in terms of skin care. I love their Clear Start range – even though it was formulated for people much younger than me (sigh), a lot of the characteristics of my skin type are associated with teenage skin and so I really loved the way it balanced it out with different products for the day and night time. Microfoliant is the brand’s hero product but I’ve never really nhad the chance to try it before now. It comes in a powder form which you mix with water and apply to your face, massaging in small circles across your skin. It’s an exfoliant where the particles are small and it is gentle enough to use everyday, straight after your cleanser. I love the way it left my skin super soft and deep cleaned – I can see why this is one of Dermalogica’s most popular products!

Resultime by Collin Paris Mini Facial Kit

Resultime by Collin Paris Mini Facial Kit*
This little kit consits of five products which are designed to work together to leave your skin looking amazing:

1. Cleasing Cream – this cleanser removes make-up and leaves your skin clean and soft. You can even use it in the shower!
2. Peeling Mask – this deteriorates dead skin cells, heling cell renewal. This mask is ideal if you have more sensitive skin as it doesn’t contain abrasive particles.
3. Smoothing Resurfacing Mask – I’ve reviewed this little beauty before, read that review here.
4. Regenerating Collagen Gel – this helps to preserve your skin’s youthfulness and hydrates, smoothes and plumps the skin’s surface.
5. Smoothing Cream – this cream offers a Botox-type effect (don’t panic – no needles required!), erasing lines and plumping out expression lines. This is great as a prevention or as a treatment.

DHC Deep Cleansing Oil*
I was a little skeptical about putting oil onto the skin on my face at first. My skin is already oily, does it need anymore? But I needn’t have worried. When applying this to dry skin, it feels amazing – a bit like a hot oil treatment from a spa and massaging it onto my face really helps me to relax and wind down, especially before bed time. It’s amazing at removing all traces of make-up including stubborn eyeliner and waterproof mascara and leaves your skin super soft and fresh and not at all greasy.

Living Nature Deep Cleansing Mask

Living Nature Deep Cleansing Mask*
I’ve been using a mask once a week to give my skin a really deep cleanse. I usually pop a mask on on a Friday evening after a really busy week at work to help me relax (and I pour myself a glass of rose!) or on a Sunday which is usually my chill day. Living Nature is a really great brand as their products are certified natural and not tested on animals – they have the bunny logo which is something the more conscientious amongst you should be looking out for. This mask contains hallo clay to purify the skin and manuka oil to cleanse and heal blemishes and imperfections, and leaves your skin balanced and refined.

I also use an eye cream day and night to try to eliminate my bags and prevent fine lines and wrinkles as well as an eyelash serum to keep those flirty lashes long and conditioned!

I just turned 26 and, whilst I’m in no way saying that I look old in any way, shape or form (although I haven’t been ID’d for a while in Tesco…) prevention is 100% better than cure and I have noticed the very first signs of fine lines beginning above my eyebrows and at the top of my nose. I had planned to start using anti-ageing skincare when I hit my twenties but I kind of missed the boat as I was finding my feet with regards to what skincare suits my skin and what I liked. But – better late than never!

Elemis Pro Collagen Super System

Elemis Pro-Collagen Super System*
This amazing kit took the experts at leading spa skincare range Elemis three whole years to develop – that means it MUST be good! It targets all the signs of ageing including dryness, fine lines and deeper wrinkles to reduce these and leave the skin super smooth. The system includes four great products:

Pro-Collagen Super Serum – this new serum is used daily and reduces fine lines and wrinkles.
Pro-Collagen Marine Cream – this hero cream is probably the most sworn by Elemis product. It’s clinically proven to reduce the depth of fine lines and wrinkles, and increase cell renewal, firmness and elasticity.
Pro-Collagen Oxygenating Night Cream – this handy little night cream helps skin regenerate and repair overnight.
Pro-Collagen Quartz Lift Mask – this mask instantly uplifts the skin for a non-surgical face-lift effect.

This is a 30 day system which means it is perfect for preparing for a special occasion.

In support of my skincare routine, I’ve also pared down my make-up to make sure my skin can breathe and to stop my pores getting blocked. Instead of foundation in the day times, I’ve just been using a primer. Dermalogica’s SkinPerfect Primer* is one of my favourites and I’ve been using this for a few months as my make-up base (I started my second tube of the lovely stuff yesterday!). It gives you good enough coverage so that your imperfections can’t be seen and gives your skin an amazing glow, making you luminous.

DHC’s Velvet Skin Coat* is another great primer. It focuses on key areas of concern on your face including fine lines and visible pores (the ones on my nose are crazy!) and minimises their appearance. It’s velvety soft and makes your skin look really flawless.

Top – Youngblood Mineral Cosmetics Hydrating Lip Tint, Bottom – Youngblood Eye-Mazing Liquid Liner

It’s also really important to look after your lips and keep them kissably soft – after all, all eyes will be on them once you say I do! I’ve discovered the amazing Hyrdating Lip Tint from Youngblood Mineral Cosmetics*. Again, this product carries the bunny logo so you can use it in confidence. It is super hydrating, I suffer from dry lips a lot from heating, office air con, the blowers in the car, cold weather, etc, and this really helps. Not only that but it comes in some really lovely colours. My favourite is Peony, a sort of coral colour which looks really natural and beautiful. It also has an SPF so is great to wear during sunny weather.

So these are my favourite wedding preparation products, if you think I’ve missed anything off – let me know!

I wish I’d started looking after my skin a little earlier than I have. I hope you’re wedding was every bit as lovely as you imagined.

Thanks Angela, it really was lovely! I’ve always had terrible skin and nothing I use seems to improve it but I’m hoping that oily skin ages better 😉 xx
