Top 5 winter skincare tips*
Winter is just around the corner (argh, slow down 2016!) so it’s time to start thinking about adapting your skincare routine for the colder weather. Winter literally plays havoc on our skin – heaters in the car, at home and in the office, plus the colder weather dries everything out and leaves your otherwise baby soft skin chapped and rough. Here are my top five tips for keeping your skin glowing and nourished throughout the winter months.
1. Invest in good skincare
You know the saying “you get what you pay for”? Well, that is never truer than with skincare. Don’t scrimp when it comes to your skincare products, instead save up and get something that’s really suitable for your skin. One size doesn’t fit all when it comes to skincare so shop around and try out plenty of samples to find one that you love.
2. Cleanse, tone and moisturise
I like to buy a whole skincare range and I find that products work better as a system rather than on their own. It’s easy to be lazy with your skincare routine – I find it most difficult at nighttime, when I’m so tired that I just want to collapse in bed – but cleansing, toning and moisturising really pays off. Do this twice a day – once in the morning and once at night – for best results.
3. Use a face mask once a week
Different face masks do different things to your skin but using one once a week will give your skin the much-needed boost it deserves. I love the masks that you can sleep in as you can really see and feel the results when you wake up. Some of my favourites include Botanicals Revitalising Mask and Dermalogica Charcoal Rescue Masque.
4. Don’t forget your hands
When talking skincare, it’s easy to focus on your face and body, but don’t neglect your hands. If you’re anything like me, your hands will really go through it in the winter time. I keep hand cream everywhere including in my bag and under the bed and I apply as soon as they start to feel a little dry. If your socks or gloves get wet, take them off as they will really dry out your skin.
5. Don’t stop scrubbing
Everyone knows how important it is to use a good body scrub in the summer to prolong a lovely tan, but don’t ditch this from your skincare routine during the winter. Using a body scrub removes dead skin cells so use in the shower and then moisturise once you get out for a glowing body throughout winter.
