Top 4 bags for winter 2017*

2017 bag trends
We women change our handbags as often as we change our knickers, and why shouldn’t we? When so many options are available to us, why can’t we pick and chose our carrier of choice, on a near daily basis? So what to wear this winter?

1. Metallics

Metallics aren’t just in for clothing, this winter will see glimmer and shimmer everywhere. As the perfect way to spice up any outfit, why not opt for something shiny and new? What was once the preserve of the 1980s, has fast made a come back into our hearts, and onto our arms.

The trend for metal works well with any outfit choice: from jeans and a t-shirt, to the office power suit. Just remember though, whichever way you go – from Louis Vuitton to Chanel, just make sure that the bag you choose doesn’t have too much shine, as the glare can make it look cheap.

2. Satchels

If you haven’t heard of the Cambridge Satchel Company, I don’t know where you’ve been, nor how you could have missed the meteoric rise, and reincarnation, of what was once the preserve of the British school child.

For a company that started life in 2008, it has come a long way in very short space of time: its satchels being the arm candy of choice for FROWers, having a collaboration with Vivienne Westwood, opening its flagship store in London’s Covent Garden and seeing its founder earn herself an OBE for services to entrepreneurship, just five years after starting up the business.

Nab one now, before the kids reclaim them.

3. Statement straps

Stealing focus from the main bag itself, a statement strap is quite the novelty, and guaranteed to get you noticed. Think Anya Hindmarch with their rainbow coloured loop strap, Fendi with their furry strap or Alexander Wang with their chain mail strap. The point is to draw attention to the detail and to make your bag stand out.

The best thing about a statement strap? It enables you to update your handbag without having to fork out for a whole new handbag. Don’t think of this trend as upcycling for the frugal fashion follower, instead treat it as you being able to stamp your individuality on a bag, that deserves more love than it currently has.

Strap on this trend now, before it’s too late.

4. Micro bags

They say good things come in small packages. None more so than the micro bags that were paraded up and down the runways of recent fashion weeks. You missed them? Of course you did. The micro bags are the antithesis of the oversized bag that has dominated the fashion world for so long.

Why must we tote everything, including the kitchen sink, with us when we are just nipping to the shops or the pub?

Give your back a break and fall in love with a Michael Kors Scout bag. They’re big enough to be able to fit your essentials in: keys, lipstick, money and your phone, but nothing else.

Go on, be brave, leave the rest of the detritus at home and enjoy a lighter life.
