The truth behind THAT DRESS

Lad Bible

Ok, so I thought I’d come on here and set the record straight. If you haven’t seen the story about my wedding dress by now then where the hell have you been?! I’ve pretty much broken the internet – I’m like Kim Kardashian’s ass when it was clearly modified on that magazine shoot. I’ve been on The Lad Bible, Mirror Online and (my personal fave, and the fave of offices up and down the country) the Mail Online – I’m even led to believe that I’ll be appearing on the Metro website – mental!

So here’s the background – my husband cheated on me and left me. This was way back in January but I’m only just getting round to selling my wedding dress. I had my wedding dress on eBay for two weeks with barely any views so I decided with a little help from my brother (ok it was all his idea!) to make it funny. I work in social media for my day job so in the back of my mind I was hoping it would go viral – but I never expected this! A lot of people have got the wrong end of the stick and think it’s really bitter but anyone who knows me knows I’ve got a great sense of humour and it’s very tongue in cheek. And to the people who have said “well, she won’t get any bids advertising like that” – I don’t think you’ve quite understood.

I have not and will not ever sell my story. YES I have been approached and YES I do need the money (lols!) but I don’t want to talk through the details of my marriage (any more than has already been said) and no amount of money will change that.

One thing all this has taught me is that people are SO NICE. I literally can’t count the amount of messages I’ve had on eBay from both men and women wishing me all the best with everything…oh, and a couple of marriage proposals. Sorry to everyone that I haven’t replied to but I just haven’t had time to – I have a full time job you know!

I wish my ex-husband all the best with everything. Yes, he made a terrible and really hurtful mistake but he’s got to live with that (and without me!) for the rest of his life. I forgive him and I’m very happy now so I hope he is too.

Oh and Celeb Big Brother producers if you’re reading this – I’m pretty sure I’ve got a space in my diary for next summer. Or maybe Ex on the Beach? Now THAT could be interesting…

You made my day 🙂 I went through the same (almost exact) thing, but my then husband just walked out on me after I’ve paid for 80% of the wedding after 6 months. I haven’t sold my dress (as I bought a way cheaper one) but wore it to a Madonna concert 🙂
I had to pay for the divorce as he still didn’t pay for his half (a year in) and the solicitor now chases me for the money…
Anyway, I wanted to tell you it get’s better, it’s not your fault and you are gorgeous and will be better off without him 🙂 and hopefully going viral you can cash in and pay for your divorce and start a conversation in how the marriage laws in the UK have not changed since 19th century to help all girls in the same situation in the future 😉

    • samantha says:

Thank you so much for your reply! There are so many people who have been through the same thing and it’s good to hear that everything works out great in the end. LOVE that you wore your dress to a Madonna concert!xx

  2. Gavin Macdonald says:

I love that the dress is now getting bids for over 17 thousand

  3. Michelle says:

I have read your story. Hope you’ll sell your dress soon. I wish you all the best in life and love.

  4. Marie says:

Great idea to make the best of the situation. I found out 3 months ago my husband was cheating on me whilst I was pregnant, so am now in the same position of getting a divorce. The wedding dress is currently hanging in my wardrobe…maybe it’s time to get it on eBay 😉

    • samantha says:

Definitely get it on there and good luck to you! I really don’t know how these people can do it (both men AND women!). The only comfort that you can take is that you will be MORE THAN FINE!xx

  5. Yasmin Rebecca (@sweetsevenfive) says:

Pretty good to read the truth behind the media story, thought it was a really funny and well-written ad. I wish you all the best and think you’ve explained this with true dignity, good for you!! xxx

  6. Rachel says:

Must be something in the Chesterfield water, my ex husband did exactly the same – wish I’d bought a more expensive wedding dress now! 😉 xx

  7. Soffe says:

I live in Finland and Ilta-Sanomat (Finnish newspaper) wrote about your story. So it’s must be pretty big thing there. 😀

I just wanted to say good luck and I live your attitude! 🙂

  8. Christopher says:

So my ex-wife pretty much did the same thing to me, but I don’t have a dress of my own to sell.

I suspect it would be a hell of a story if I did 😉

  9. Sean says:

That’s a horrible thing to happen to you. Hope you meet someone more deserving of yourself in the future. With your awesome sense of humour, it shouldn’t take long.

  10. Rachel says:

I’m absolutely fine thanks, takes more than a cheater to knock me down – hope you’re good too 😊 xx

  11. Peter says:

Samantha, the very, very best of luck with the divorce – they’re never easy and quite frequently the only people that win from them are the Solicitors, with both parties (and any children) being the victims.
Nevertheless, I wish you every happiness in your personal life and every success in your professional one – heaven only knows, you deserve both!!

Shows how things go viral and the world goes crazy. I filmed some people trying to put a sofa in a car, put it on YouTube on Friday and getting calls from the US and newspapers and online carrying the video by Monday.
I see he has posted a video reply. At the end of the day, he has to live without you. I hope all those bids on eBay aren’t spoof bids and you make some money from it.
    Have fun.

  13. steven wickes says:

a catchphrase from an old movie (first wives club) came to mind reading your story.

    ‘don’t get mad. get EVERYTHING’

wishing you the very best your future life has to offer

  14. Elle says:

I tried to view your ebay auction to see what it sold for and it looks like they removed it.
    Drats! What happened?

    • Samantha Wragg says:

It finished at £65,900! Unfortunately I don’t think any of the bids were real, but it has made a great story!

  15. rach says:

Have you received much (if any) of the money from the dress?

  16. rach says:

Oh no. I’m so sorry. I was hoping that some good would come from it and help you in the process. Fingers crossed for you

  17. Micheal says:

I tried to view your ebay auction but not much succesful.

  18. OMG! Samantha, I can’t believe this was YOU!!! 1) You poor thing to go through all that 2) what a fu**ing idiot BUT 3) Look what came out of it!! An amazing viral blog post from a girl with a fab sense of humour and amazing blog. Love it! xx

    • Samantha Wragg says:

Awww thanks so much! Yes, I can’t believe it’s almost a year ago – my blog has changed so much in that time and it really did help to get me some valuable exposure!xx

[…] No doubt you’ve seen my smiling face plastered across social media this week. If not just to give you a quick background and get you up to speed – I’m recently divorced and I’m listing my wedding dress on eBay, I wrote a rather scathing description and it’s now everywhere. And I mean everywhere. Phew. It’s currently had 75 bids and is standing at over 65k. I’m pretty sure these are fake bids (who in there right mind would pay that?!) but even so, it’s been a proper laugh. Read the complete back story here. […]
