Stones Restaurant Matlock lunch review

Stones Restaurant Matlock
Stones Restaurant in Matlock is without a doubt my favourite restaurant. They serve delicious modern British cuisine and cocktails and dining here is more of an experience than your usual lunch. I visited with two of my besties this weekend to try out their summer lunch menu.

Cocktails at Stones Restaurant

Drinks

As it was a beautiful summer’s day (in fact the hottest day of the year so far!) we decided to have a couple of cocktails on the terrace before lunch. Stones’ terrace overlooks the River Derwent and has a chilled atmosphere. I chose to indulge in a pimms and lemonade (well, it is summer, after all!) which tasted super fresh and was a perfect accompaniment to the weather.

Of course – we got through a couple of bottles of prosecco with our meal too!

The staff

One of the things that I love so much about Stones is how good the staff are. They’re really attentive and professional

Mushroom risotto

The food

The main event. The food at Stones is what you really come for. Their lunch menu is priced at £25 for two courses or £29.50 for three courses and is available from Wednesday to Saturday between 12 and 1.30pm.

I opted for the mushroom risotto for my starter which was really rich, creamy and delicious. It was full of different types of mushroom, all of which had a distinctive flavour. Mushrooms are one of my favourite foods and these ones were just divine.

Rump of beef
For my main course I went for the rump of beef which was perfectly pink and was served with chunky chips, tomato and onion rings. The meat absolutely melted in my mouth and was perfectly seasoned.

The ambience

The restaurant itself is light and airy with contemporary simple, clean decor. There are large patio doors which open out onto the terrace on a day with good weather so, if you get one of these tables, you’re kind of mixing the outside with the inside and getting the best of both worlds.

As well as your courses you also get some yummy canapés – the pulled pork cubes are my absolute faves – and homemade breads and butters, so you end up really satisfied at the end of the meal.

When I visited Stones Restaurant in Matlock a few years ago, the portions were really small (but still delicious!), but the last few times I’ve been I think the portions have definitely got bigger. I couldn’t actually even manage a dessert this time!

Stones Restaurant is a must visit if you’re in Matlock or the Peak District, especially if you’re a foodie. It’s also the perfect spot to grab a sophisticated lunch with the girls. I recommend booking WAY in advance, especially if you are planning to visit on a weekend as they are usually fully booked a few months out.
