September and October 2017 events
As usual, my events post is LATE but this one should be worth waiting for! If you’ve seen my Instagram recently you’ll know I’ve been to loads of events over the past couple of weeks, so here’s what I’ve been up to…
Pitcher and Piano Christmas menu launch, Derby
Ok, so it’s still a while until Christmas but it’s getting closer and closer and it’s definitely not too soon to be planning your office Christmas party or a Christmas meal for all you friends. I was invited to try out the Christmas menu at the Pitcher and Piano in Derby and get into the Christmas spirit! There was prosecco (a must for every Christmas party!), deep brie and cranberry sauce, tomato soup, turkey and stuffing sandwich with roast potatoes (these were my favourite bit!) and toffee apple crumble and dark chocolate brownie for dessert – yum!
The Botanist, West Bridgford opening
I’d never visited a branch of The Botanist before so I was super excited for the press night, as I knew the bar would be right up my street! The new venue in West Bridgford is like a really up market garden shed and the drinks selection is second to none with a whole little notebook full of beers, plus plenty of delicious cocktails with a twist – the one I picked smoked as it was brought over! We also sampled some of the food and were pretty pleased with the chicken, ham and leek pie and steak sandwich, plus the tenderstem broccoli side which was probably the best broccoli I’d ever tasted. This is the perfect place to take the girls for a few cocktails.

The #BigBingoBash, Nottingham
The #BigBingoBash was hosted at Mecca Bingo in Beeston and was like bingo with an extra side of good-clean-fun entertainment! It started with huge balloons being launched over everyone which went a bit mental with some of them hitting the ceiling and breaking some of the roof tiles! There were also lots of games of bingo with cash prizes and even holidays to be won. No one will be surprised that I didn’t win anything…I’m the unluckiest person ever! My brother, however, did win a mug and was presented it by the very glamorous bingo girls! The food wasn’t the best ever, but it was great value and the drinks were really reasonably priced too. All round – a great night out!

Meridian Bloggers Night, Leicester
I’d never been to Meridian Leisure before but it’s a one stop shop for family entertainment. We met in Harvester where we were taught how to pull the perfect pint (I was actually a little late from work so I missed this bit so maybe I’ll never learn how to pull the perfect pint!) before heading to Nando’s for starters of olives, piri piri nuts and hummus and pitta bread. After this it was time for a game of bowling, which I am truly terrible at but I didn’t totally disgrace myself this time! After working up an appetite we headed to Five Guys for burgers. I’m not exaggerating when I say that this was one of the best burgers I’ve ever eaten! I went for a double cheeseburger with cajun seasoned chips and a peanut butter milkshake – a perfect way to end a great night.

Black Iron launch, Leicester
Black Iron is a modern steakhouse and bar, located at the beautiful Winstanley House in Leicester. The house is a grade II listed hotel and wedding venue set in beautiful leafy parkland and the food was just incredible. We had pork cheeks to start with followed by rib eye steak and sea bream and then tea and cake and sticky toffee pudding for dessert and it was one of the best meals we have had in the past couple of years. The steak was melt-in-your-mouth perfection, cooked perfectly pink. The only thing I would say is that there is a bit of an “unfinished” air about the place, and the atmosphere isn’t quite there yet, but I’m sure it will be soon, and the food more than makes up for that. The staff were also wonderful, very attentive and couldn’t do enough for you.

Another? Wine Bar opening, Nottingham
This new-concept wine bar is situated in the centre of Nottingham and we were invited along to try it out. The concept is brilliant – you get a tab card, insert it into a machine and pick from a sample, small or large glass of wine and fill up your glass, then pay when you leave – and that’s it! It’s pretty great for me because I am a classic zinfandel lover, but this allows you to pick just a sample of each, if you wish, so you can try before you buy. The prices also seemed super reasonable for a glass of wine, I presume because it takes less staff to run the bar. It’s also super cute inside and they have nibbles like olives and nuts for you to snack on. I’m definitely going to be taking the girls here on our next day sesh in Nottingham.
[I was invited to experience all these complimentary events however, as usual, all opinions are my own.]
