My top 5 blogging essentials

Of course, there are loads of things that I cannot blog (and therefore live!) without. There’s the inspiration, the awesome writing skills (ahem) and the time to do it in. But this post is all about the gadgets, tools and other bits and pieces that I just can’t live without when blogging.

But first, no blogger can get their job done without a reliable internet connection! I recently encountered some difficulties with my router and I was so worried about not being able to get my last blog posted on time. Fortunately, one of my friends is good with technology and showed me how to configure my router settings and this seems to have fixed the problem for now.

If ever you want to configure your router settings, you need to know your IP address and your IP password. If, like me, you own a Linksys router, but do not know your IP password, you can find it here.

So, internet issues to one side, let’s get on to my blogging essentials!

1. High tech camera or really good smartphone

My pictures are probably one of the weakest points of my blog and this is because I just don’t have a great artistic eye! However, there’s absolutely nothing that I can do about this – it’s not something that you can teach yourself. What you can do, however, is make your life easier by having a really good camera or a smartphone which is just as good.

I can’t live without my iPhone and the camera on it is pretty decent – good enough for taking shameless selfies anyway! I like using apps like PicMonkey, Lensical and PicLab, as well as the filters and tools on Instagram to make my pics a little better to look at. It also helps to know your way around good old-fashioned PhotoShop.

2. Something to help you blog on the go

I use my iPhone or Mr P’s iPad to blog when I’m away from home.

I like to keep Mr P’s iPad safe (because he’d kill me if I didn’t!) with this gorgeous baby blue case from Case Happy*. This case keeps this precious gadget protected from the elements and it also stands the iPad up, which is perfect for when I’m watching 90210 on Netflix or YouTube yoga! Case Happy sell cases for all your usual gadgets in a range of lovely designs and colours – you could even get one for every outfit.

3. Obviously I couldn’t live without my phone

It seems a really obvious one, but I definitely couldn’t write this post without giving a bit of a heads up to my phone. I’ve already mentioned about it taking pictures for me, but this little fella also keeps me in touch with PR contacts, other bloggers and whoever else I might need to during the course of my day.

It also helps me keep my social media updated and I am absolutely Insta-obsessed at the moment! I was a little late to the party but better late than never and I’m catching up super-quickly. Pinterest is next on my list, although I’m reluctant to set it up as I’ve heard you can lose hours of your life to it.

4. Blogging apps

I use the blogging platform Blogger and there’s a handy app which means that I can blog from anywhere (so long as I can get on the WiFi!). The app is available for iOS and so I’ve installed it on my phone and Mr P’s iPad so there’s no excuse not to blog. There are also web host providers such as hostiserver that allow me to blog anywhere.

5. Social media platforms

Social media sites help me promote my blog, network with other bloggers and businesses and get inspiration for my next blog post. Whether that comes from a tag, a piece of clothing I happen to catch sight of, or an idea from one of my favourite bloggers, there’s no end to what you can get from social (or sosh as I like to call it!). As well as social media apps, it is also crucial that you get the best wordpress hosting provider for your blog, as this can have a substantial impact on your readership. There are many sites you can check out in order to get the best possible deal on wordpress hosting.

My absolute favourite platform is Twitter – it’s reach is pretty much unlimited and you can start conversations with anyone from your best friend, to a celebrity or a business.

And it’s great for your SEO! I still need to set up authorship, etc but it’s so complex!
