Mineral Make-Up

Yay, it’s summer time! You know what that means – wedges, bold prints and denim hotpants plus festivals, BBQs and parties. In fact as I write this, the sun is streaming through the (open) patio doors and it’s a really beautiful day and I’m off to an outdoor music event tonight.

So, there are plenty of occasions throughout July and August where you’ll probably want to wear more make-up than your usual day time look which is ironic as, when it’s warm, the last thing you want to do is have a sweaty face full of thick make-up.

And that’s why I’ve been trying mineral foundations. A lot lighter on your skin, most of them come in powder form and feel like you’re hardly wearing anything at all. Here’s my pick of the best ones around at the moment.

Vitage Colour Minerals Foundation*

I got this little pot with the Vitage Buki Brush as well. It’s really easy to apply, especially for a first time mineral make-up applier. It’s coverage is amazing, even on terrible skin like mine and I’ve been wearing it a lot over the top of my primer.
Best for: Coverage

Benecos Natural Mineral Powder*

The coverage of this product wasn’t as good as the Vitage so I think it’s best used as a translucent powder over the top of a foundation or for a day time look. It’s super light so perfect for natural looking girls and it gives a real brightness to your complexion.
Best for: Light, day time make-up

Dermalogica Cover Tint*

I’ve actually been using this foundation for a while and love it as part of my night time make-up routine. Dermalogica is one of my favourite brands for skincare so I’m glad that they’re started doing make-up as well. I think it’s a little heavy for the day time but it gives really good coverage all over, perfect for a night out.
Best for: Nights out on the town!

Pur Minerals 4-in-1 Liquid Foundation and 4-in-1 Pressed Mineral Make-Up*

Both of these have an SPF of 15, perfect for summer time wear. This is a brand I’d wanted to try for a while but hadn’t had the opportunity yet. Great for oily skin, but still hydrating, these can last for as long as 14 hours, great for long festival days. They’re silky soft on application and blend really well.
Best for: Flawless blending

Youngblood Mineral Cosmetics Pro Foundation Set and Hi-Definition Hydrating Mineral Perfecting Powder*

The Pro Foundation Set comes in a stack of four pots – one Mineral Rice Setting Powder, for longer lasting coverage and four different shades of foundation – ideal for contouring. The finishing powder gives a really flawless finish and is great for if you’re going to be on camera, like at a wedding or other special occasion. Ideal in the heat, the powder has a lovely cooling soothing sensation when applied.
Best for: Long-lasting coverage

Living Nature Foundation*

Another silky smooth liquid foundation from my favourite natural brand. When you’re using this foundation, you know that you’re really giving your skin the best in natural ingredients and it actually works to help heal, nourish and protect while you’re wearing it.
Best for: Natural nourishment and protection

Sheer Cover Perfect Shade Mineral Foundation*

I also got the Sun-Kissed Bronzing Minerals and the Conceal and Brighten Trio and with these three products together, there’s really no need for any more make-up. Perfect for base, concealing and contouring. For a really bright, matte complexion, these are the ones.
Best for: A full face of make-up!
