Guest post: Find confidence in these professional staples
The powerful professional wants a wardrobe that expresses their success in a way that makes them feel confident and ready to conquer the world. The basic necessities of a successful professional wardrobe can be flattering for all sizes and body types.
You can take them and mix them up, match them with great accessories, and dress them down for casual days and after hours meetings.
Here is a list of the necessities that can take your professional wardrobe from blah to fabulous.
Grab a blazer
A good blazer can go a long way in a wardrobe. This one article of clothing can make a simple outfit look more polished. You can dress up a dress or a pair of pinstriped shorts with a blazer and a button-up blouse. You can pair it with a sleek pair of jeans to dress up a casual outfit suitable for a casual meeting for drinks with a more laid-back client. No matter what you pair a good blazer with, you always look professional and ready to conduct business. Blazers come in many colors, sizes, and shapes. Buying a neutral color is best because it makes it easier to pair it up with other items in your closet.
The power suit is a must
No business wardrobe is complete without a power suit. The power suit is the outfit you go to when you know you need to command the room. A good power suit will give you the confidence you need to nail that presentation you have worked so hard on. You will feel strong and capable of doing anything when you put that suit on and enter the office for a full day of wheeling and dealing.
Trousers to die for
A nice pair of trousers that fit your body to a tee will make you look tall and lean. When it comes to trousers, you have many options at your disposal. You can choose from flare legs, a tapered fit, or a cropped leg. It is all about what looks good on you. It is a good idea to have a number of trousers in your arsenal because they can be matched with a multitude of blouse options, blazer types, and even a dressy t-shirt. You may consider buying them in a vast array of colors and styles so you have a full variety of pants to choose from.
What’s on top?
There are so many blouse choices on the market, it can sometimes be a little difficult to choose which ones to add to your wardrobe. Think classic and sleek when choosing your collection of blouses. The classic button-up shirt, in white, can be matched with any colour pants or blazer. If you are a little more adventurous, you can go with a loose fitting white blouse over a traditional tapered trouser or a silk shell with a stylish overlay. You can also explore different sleeve lengths for a little variety and flare. It would be good to have different types of silk shirts/a> in your closet to help you spice things up from time to time.
The infamous pencil skirt
The pencil skirt has a time-honored tradition of being the skirt that brings professionalism and femininity together as one. This skirt has been the skirt to go to for decades. Most of the time, the pencil skirt can be a nice skirt to throw on with a blouse and possibly a blazer, however, for some body types, this skirt is not nearly as flattering. The key is to find a skirt that looks good on you and brings a touch of professionalism to your outfit.
It is all about the shoes
Just a few short decades ago, it was tradition to suffer for fashion. Women wore tight fitting shoes that were so high they made your feet hurt about 20 minutes after you put them on. Thank goodness those days are over and comfort is more in style than pain. When considering what shoes to add to your professional wardrobe, it is good to think about the different business situations you will need shoes for. It is traditional to have a black heel in your arsenal because they are classic and go with everything. You also want to try to have a nude pair for variety and maybe a wedge. Along with your heels, you want to add a comfort shoe. Flats are now an acceptable option for business wear. A ballet slipper or a loafer in a neutral color can be just the comfort you need without making your outfit look too casual.
The look of femininity
Nothing says feminine goddess like a dress that is flattering to your shape and size. Dresses are not out and you should always have not only the infamous “little black dress” but also a dress or two that simply makes you feel pretty. If your dress choice is not quite as professional looking as you would like, consider taking this opportunity to pull out your blazer and try it on for size. A blazer can make any dress look professional and inspired. The right shoes, handbag, and accessories can put the power suit to shame. Do not count out the right dress. You can feel powerful, confident, and lady-like all in one and what is more amazing than that?
Accessories and handbags
Less is more is the mantra here. You want to keep it simple but exciting and conversation worthy. If you choose to wear a statement necklace, try to tone down your earrings as to not say too much at once. Your handbag should complement your outfit. Keep in mind that you can use it to bring a pop of colour to your attire. You want your accessories and handbag to bring a little extra to the party, not be the party.

There is no right or wrong way to dress these up. Find your confidence and show it off.
