Dermalogica Charcoal Rescue Masque review*

Dermalogica Charcoal Masque
The latest innovation from my very favourite skincare brand Dermalogica is the Charcoal Rescue Masque. Combining charcoal, volcanic ash, sea silt, bamboo and sulphur, this treatment mask works to detoxify and brighten your skin. Addressing common skin complaints like ageing, dullness, breakouts and sensitivity, the ingredients draw out excess oil and impurities, refine pores, calm redness and improve skin texture and smoothness.

Charcoal is the biggest ingredient in the beauty industry right now thanks to its great properties for both skin and digestion. Dermalogica also sent me a drinks bottle and a stick of activated charcoal and I’ve been drinking charcoal water all day at work for a while now (post on the benefits of drinking charcoal coming soon!).

Unlike other face masks, you can use this one up to four times a week and so whenever you feel your skin needs rescuing you can pop it on. Cleanse your skin first (an ideal accompaniment would be Dermalogica’s Essential Cleansing Solution) then apply the Charcoal Rescue Masque generously over your face and throat, avoiding your eye area. I would recommend doing this whilst in the house on your own as it’s not exactly a great look!

Leave on for 10 minutes, then lightly massage with wet hands to give your skin a bit more exfoliation before rinsing thoroughly. I must admit, this was a little tingly after my holiday to Portugal where I’d caught the sun! I love products that you have to leave on for a while as I think it really enhances the way it works – plus I can catch up with TOWIE while I’m waiting! Just moisturise afterwards and you’re done!

I found that straight after my first use, my skin felt tighter and more toned and after just a couple more uses my skin was really clear and glowing – I’ve even had compliments about it at work which, as you’ll know if you’re a regular reader, is quite rare for someone whose skin is usually quite bad.

Like me, you’re probably wondering if Dermalogica can make a product that doesn’t work. I can tell you that the answer is, of course, no!
