#BookClub The Nemesis Program by Scott Mariani
This is a traditional conspiracy novel in the same vein as The DaVinci Code and you can tell that just by looking at the cover. Although the aforementioned is probably the original and most successful of its kind, I still love novels like this mainly because they are so exciting to read. There are twists and turns on every page and they’re super tense. They’re not exactly a relaxing Sunday read but they definitely keep you gripped and this one is no different.
The Nemesis Program is part of the action-adventure series by Scott Mariani featuring hero Ben Hope. Hope is a great main character – just like all the best heroes he has his flaws and he has a past which gives him an edge which is quite attractive. He’s also sensitive, caring and really manly (ok, so I might be just a little bit in love with him). Best of all – he’s British!
The story follows Ben as he’s about to settle down and get married when his ex-girlfriend Dr Roberta Ryder appears on his doorstep begging for his help. Roberta is also a great character, I’ve talked many times in my #BookClub posts about how much I dislike weak female characters so luckily Roberta is the opposite. Strong and tenacious, she’s trying to find out why her friend was murdered.
The pair race around the world encountering danger and enemies at every turn and the book is jam packed full of suspense. There’s also a little bit of forbidden romance, true friendships and plenty of fight scenes. Ok, so it’s not going to win the Booker Prize, but it’s a really enjoyable read and is difficult to put down – a perfect one for your beach bag.
